God’s Banner

Definition:

Banner

Flag, standard, ensign, colours; often a flag that shows who we belong to and are willing to fight for in battle. God’s banner over us is one of truth, love and salvation.

Scripture Reading:

We will rejoice in the salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banner! / You have given a banner to those who fear You, that it may be displayed because of the truth. / He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love. / O my love, you are as beautiful as Tirzah, lovely as Jerusalem, Awesome as an army with banners! / Who is she who looks forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, awesome as an army with banners! / Lift up a banner on the high mountain, raise your voice to them; wave your hand, that they may enter the gates of the nobles. / So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun; when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard (a banner) against him. “The Redeemer will come to Zion”
Ps. 20:5; Ps. 60:4; Song 2:4; Song 6:4; Song 6:10; Isa. 13:2; Isa. 59:19-20a.

Discipleship Directive:

As disciples, we are to hold the Word and Christ high as our flag so that all may know who we belong to and serve. We are a part of God’s army and we need to show the enemy that our life here on earth will be a banner that will show forth that we are a children of God and that He is our commander and chief and where he leads me I will follow.

Dedication Prayer:

Dear Lord, help me to be a true a soldier of the cross, so that when You call me to arms, I will rise up not in my strength and power, but in your strength and power to serve you wherever you may call me. Lord I want my life to count for your glory, and that others may see in my life your grace, love and mercy. Let my life be your flag and banner that others may see like a lamp that cannot be hidden on a mountain top.
